IppoPay appoints Shabareesh Suresh as general counsel

IppoPay, a fintech startup providing payment infrastructure to small businesses in tier-2 and 3 cities and rural areas, has announced the appointment of Shabareesh Suresh as its general counsel.

Suresh has close to 10 years of experience across law firms including AZB & Partners and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. He brings in-depth understanding of legal, compliance, regulatory, transactional, and structuring aspects of multiple sectors, including banking, information technology, manufacturing, e-commerce, real estate, retail, healthcare, insurance, and education.

He has actively represented some of India’s biggest fintech, e-commerce, retail entities and startups, and has executed various large and complex mergers and acquisitions, including private equity, venture capital investments, joint venture collaboration, and outsourcing requirements. He has also been advising various startups and investors – both private equity and venture capital – on their investments in India.

“We are very excited to have Shabareesh join our leadership team. In his new role, he will continue to provide guidance and strong leadership as we continue our progress towards many important regulatory milestones,” said Mohan K, CEO of IppoPay.

“Having guided several payment and technology companies in the past, I intend to invest all my expertise in ensuring the organisation has a strong footing in legal and compliance matters. IppoPay has already emerged as a prominent player in the payments space and I hope to continue that journey forward by contributing towards the overall transformation of the sector with a sound legal framework,” said Suresh.

IppoPay is a seed-funded company and has raised $2.1 million from Coinbase Ventures, Better Capital, and Blume Founders Fund. The round also saw participation from Madhu R and Prabhu R – founders of M2P Fintech, Kumar S – CEO of Fego, Archana Priyadarshini – partner at PointOne Capital, Sailesh Ramanakrishnan – partner at Rocketship VC, and Kuberan M – YC angel investor.
